[10]Attention all priests and parishioners of the Hearst-Moosonee diocese.

The Diocese is looking at the possibility of organizing an ecumenical celebration in each area of the diocese once we are freed from constraints of government restrictions. This would be for ALL Catholic and non-Catholic people who have lost a loved one during this pandemic.

For additional details, please refer to the following June 17, 2020 letter from Bishop Robert Bourgon. To show your interest and to better prepare for those celebrations you are invited to contact the Bishop’s office.

June 9, 2020:

Good News!!!

As you have certainly heard in the media, the churches have received government approval to celebrate Sunday and daily masses with social distancing starting this Friday, June 12 at 12:01 pm. The government allows us to accommodate 30% of the capacity of the church with the distance of 2 meters or 6 feet between each person.

More detailed information concerning “church operations during pandemic emergency situations” is available on

As of March 19th, ALL MASSES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

For your information, please review the following most recent directives/communique from the Porcupine Health Unit :

Porcupine Health Unit Covid-19 March 17, 2020 Update [13]

April 1, 2020

In the context of the new corona virus COVID-19 epidemic, we are mostly preoccupied with the health and well-being of the parishioners of the Holy Name of Jesus parish and we pray that the Lord protects us all and very particularly those of us who are vulnerable or who care for the sick.

We have the delicate task of addressing the question of the financial impact of the suspension of Sunday Liturgies because of this pandemic. As you well know, our parish relies enormously on the Sunday collection to pay its expenses. Furthermore, our other sources of revenue are also diminishing at this time.

We understand that we are living in a time of crisis and we are all touched in one way or another by COVID-19. In prayer, we invite you to evaluate how you can continue to support our parish to ensure that it can carry on—maybe some of you will be able to do a little bit more while others need to scale back.

You can do your part in one of many ways:

  1. By mailing cheques to the following address: Holy Name of Jesus Church, P.O. Box 220, Hornepayne, ON P0M 1Z0
  2. By mailing or depositing your cheque donation (made payable to the “Holy Name of Jesus Parish – donation “ to the Northern Credit Union, 84 Front Street, Hornepayne, ON P0M 1Z0. You should also include a note and/or letter providing your name, address, donation envelope number if you normally have one,  and the fact that you wish to make a deposit to the “Parish donation account” which the parish holds at the Northern Credit Union. In this manner, the parish would be able to provide a tax receipt at the end of the year for your donation.
  3. Contact the parish office if you have any questions, special needs or if you can be of assistance in a special way. You can reach us by email at: lefortarmand@hotmail.com [1]

Let us continue to practice solidarity during these trying times and participate in our own way in the healing ministry of Christ.

Rev. John Okoh
